I’m Tom. Welcome.
What I Do
I’m a senior UX content designer — an experienced creative who combines writing, strategy, and business acumen to design web and app experiences that make sense and work intuitively. I’ve spent more than two decades harnessing the power of carefully considered words to effect positive change for businesses and their audiences. I love to solve complex problems as part of collaborative teams.
Recent Experience
I earned my graduate certificate in User Experience in 2019-2020 to bolster a formal pivot to UX content design. I then spent four amazing years in a FORTUNE 10, multi-business organization where I partnered with digital designers, product leaders and software developers on projects in the Retail (mostly B2C, some B2B) and Health sectors. Before that, I did some freelance website redesign work for a couple of years and even had a brief content design role at Intel. I usually work in multi-disciplinary design teams, I thrive on collaboration, and I foster a positive mindset wherever I go. See UX Content Design Projects
What Makes Me Special
Before formally pivoting to UX, I enjoyed a 20-year career developing and executing strategic internal communications to solve business challenges, mostly within pharmaceutical and biotech companies in Greater Boston. One of my super powers is distilling highly complex topics into everyday language. Another is that I like to ask the difficult questions many are afraid to, but in a constructive way that wins friends and influences people. While I no longer work in Communications (capital “C”), my experiences as an internal consultant make me highly adept at navigating the complexities and nuances of large organizations, and thus, a much savvier and more effective content designer. Education
I hold a graduate certificate in User Experience, a Master's degree in Management and Organizational Communication, and a Bachelor’s in Creative Writing (English). I’m a lifelong learner with a growth mindset.
Values
What I bring to (and most value within) a workplace: collaboration, commitment, doing right by users, constructive criticism, creative problem-solving, optimism tempered with reality, research- and fact-based decision making, clear and direct communication, listening to and learning from everyone, continuous improvement, inclusivity, respect, and laughing on a daily basis.
When I’m Not Working…
When I’m not working, I enjoy family time, movies, music, gaming, house renovation, and climbing rocks — really big rocks. I have a long history of volunteerism that recently includes teaching others how to safely climb really big rocks with the Appalachian Mountain Club - Boston Chapter. | Learn more about me
